Information about Akuvox’s collection and use of your face recognition data on our User Experience Improvement Program (UEIP)

In order to gain valuable insight into the usage of our face recognition feature and address issues common among users, we would like to invite you to join our User Experience Improvement Program (UEIP). The UEIP enables us to collect information about your user experience and certain errors you may encounter during using our face recognition feature.

When you opt in to our UEIP program and your device is connected to Akuvox Cloud, our UEIP services running in Akuvox products gather anonymous data from your device, and automatically send the data to Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service which uses the hosted CMK to generate different keys to encrypt different objects to ensure storage security. The data are stored on the device ROM, then transferred securely via HTTPS to Akuvox daily (between 1 and 2 am). When your device is not connected to Akuvox Cloud, the data are stored on the device ROM only. All data will be automatically deleted after one month.

All data are anonymous, and we’ve put in a comprehensive ‘anonymizer’ system that makes it nearly impossible to connect the data we’ve collected to you. This information is only useful to our product team and will be used to detect and fix bugs in our face recognition feature without putting your personal data at risk.

The data collected by our UEIP include:

Personal data, i.e. your facial image, which are converted to an irreversible feature coding.

Technical data, for example, information about identification result (success or failure), identification time overhead and device time-stamp of the current recording time, which in many cases are non-personal information. These data do not, on its own, directly associate with any specific individual.

The UEIP does not collect any customer contact information. The information we receive is anonymous. But when you contact our technical support, we may record the communications for security and customer services purposes and collect additional information to verify your identity and to perform your needs, i.e. deleting or exporting the data as per your instructions.

You may choose to opt out of the program at any time by logging into the Intercom/Face webpage of the device and setting ‘Face Experience Improvement’ to ‘Disable’. There is no need to reboot the device. After you opt out of the program, the data on the device will be deleted at once. We will stop receiving any new data about you, but we may not delete the information that we have already collected, which is stored on a cloud server and which we may continue to use for one month maximum.

Your participation is voluntary. Participation in this program will not affect your usage of our products and services. You will not be disturbed in any way, for example, by pop-ups, emails, or phone surveys, etc. Our products and services will work the same whether you participate in this program or not.
